Missouri Hospital Association Utilizes Med Sled Evacuation Device

What can happen in just 60 seconds? A fire can spread out of control, an earthquake can shake a building to rubble, a tornado can tear down a city block and a Missouri hospital could be on its way to a safe and quick evacuation with Med Sled.

Med Sled is a unique new device which is allowing several Missouri Hospitals to maximize efficiency and patient safety during an emergency evacuation. In response to the growing demand for an efficient emergency evacuation solution, the Missouri Hospital Association recently contracted to purchase 1600 Med Sleds. The $400,000 agreement will provide Med Sleds to 94 hospitals throughout Missouri.

According to Vanessa Poston, Environmental Health and Safety manager at Missouri Baptist Medical Center, "I have experience using other evacuation chairs and devices and the Med Sled is by far the most affordable, lightweight and unique evacuation device out there. I am a small person, and the Med Sled is lightweight so that I can quickly move a patient much heavier. It truly is a unique device."

What makes the Med Sled such an easy device to learn and use is its 'roll and drag' method, which prevents any type of heavy lifting. For example, a 250-pound patient could be lifted by a 120-pound staff member with little difficulty.

Because the Med Sled is so compact, it can be easily stored away. Should any equipment be necessary to take with the patient, the Med Sled features a number of slots to hold oxygen, IV bags and other medical devices.
