CLEVELAND, OH - Northeastern Ohio recently signed with ARC Products to purchase over 700 Med Sled units for use in evacuating non-ambulatory patients in the event of a disaster. The Med Sled enables facility employees to transport patients down a stairwell in order to exit a multi-floor building.
In response to a growing need and demand for viable, cost-effective and efficient transport solutions, St. Louis-based ARC Products developed the Med Sled to ensure that no one is left behind. "When timing is critical," said company president Clifford Adkins, "Med Sled lets you move quickly to secure patients and evacuate them faster and safer than with other available methods or devices."
According to George Cooper, Patient Safety Officer at Fairview Hospital, a Cleveland Clinic Hospital, "We have found the Med Sled to be perfect for evacuating patients because of its versatility-it can evacuate patients vertically or horizontally. It is also quite easy to train someone to use the Med Sled; even a smaller individual can transport a patient down a stairwell. Compared to previous methods of patient evacuation, such as a blanket carry or dragging methods, the Med Sled is a much safer and efficient means to conduct an emergency evacuation."
The beauty of the Med Sled is that it uses the 'roll and drag' method, which ensures that heavy lifting is not required. "Anyone can use this product," Adkins continued, "with a minimal amount of training. And size is immaterial; for example, a 120-pound woman can effectively transport a 200-pound man with relative ease."
The unit is compact and durable, weighing only 10 lbs. and storing in an area of 9 inches by 36 inches. The Med Sled helps protect the patient during transport and also holds IV bags, oxygen and other small medical devices. In addition, the product comes with efficient storage options for easy access, and also safely transports infants and toddlers via special foam inserts.
The Med Sled is affordably priced and is significantly more efficient and cost-effective than other evacuation products on the market. "When timing is of the essence," Adkins concluded, "The Med Sled enables you to safely transport a person in a difficult rescue or emergency evacuation situation, while simultaneously providing stability and protection."
